UFP Fan Club Convention report
What a fantastic event.
On 6th May 2006 Terra Nova Three was
held at the Mercure Grosvenor Hotel at 125 North Terrace Adelaide.
First up was a fashion show of Science Fiction attire through the
years, done by the Australian Costumers Guild South Australia.
The costumes were varied with shows represented across the board.
Star Trek, Star Wars, Babylon 5, 5th Element (a brave female I can
tell you), a Dr Who - Tom Baker - a good likeness, complete with
lolly bag) Boba Fett, a female Klingon and the 501st
Legion’s -Stormtroopers plus many more. We send our thanks
to Lynn Cook who did a terrific job of compiling this fantastic show
for us.
The Costume Competition was next, with entrants from
the audience. Hartley A won the Male category, the Female
category was won by Hailey, the Youth prize was won by Sean and
Jecinta won the Child section, with the two other little ones also
receiving a prize as their efforts were too hard to decide between.
The child Starfleet entrant was most intrigued by the mini Star Wars
troopers. Absolutely Adorable! See for yourself with the accompanying
photos on this site.
At this point our first guest, John
Billingsley and his wife Bonita Friedericy, graced us with their
presence. They stole the show and John was very entertaining with
Bonnie as his side-kick. They could easily do a comedy routine any
time! John told us of his disappointment of the last show in the
fourth season of Star Trek Enterprise without giving too much away
for those that haven't seen the episode yet. (Adelaide TV had not
aired the fourth season as yet when this convention was held) An
actor for many years John has played many roles including serial
killers like in Cold Case that recently screened on one of our TV
networks, Channel Nine, in late April 2006. John has quite a talent
there, with a chilling side. Impressive! John Billingsley presented
the prizes to all the winners for the Costume Competition.
In
the lunch break 64 attendees took the opportunity with Event
Photography for a professional photo with an Actor. These photos
were printed on the spot so you could have them autographed later on
in the day, which was a great service that we all appreciated.
We
watched a promo for a new UK based Science Fiction satire named
'Starhyke', which stars Claudia Christian, which brought Claudia to
the stage. As an author of children books, a novel and more to come
as well as her acting career, this lady is leading a busy life.
Claudia has also returned to study in Literature while residing in
London.
Up next was the Star Trek Enterprise episode 2.23
'Regenerations' which features Bonnie as a Borg. All the while John &
Bonnie provided us with a running commentary which proved to be
positively hilarious.
Our business supporters Kollectable
Kaos, Movie Manics, Adelaide Comics and The Computer
Bug supplied the great Costume Competition prizes. First
Contact Conventions and Gateworld Colletables from
Melbourne donated the other prizes for the Child category. Also as a
club member S.A. Photography’s Des Farkas was present to
take photos around the room. All of the support received by The
United Federation of Planets Fan Club Inc from these businesses is
very much appreciated so please support them..
The United
Federation of Planets Fan Club Inc Raffle was drawn by Claudia
Christian with Paul W winning First Prize and Paula A receiving
Second. Congratulations to them both.
The Auction saw all
three actors on stage for an impromptu sale. Some bargains went under
the hammer with some bonus autographs from the actors going to the
lucky recipients.
Some thirty people attended the Cocktail
Party on the Saturday evening with another twenty people attending
the Mystery Tour on Sunday with Claudia. The weather was rather
dismal on Saturday night of the 6th May 2006 so doubts
were held for the success of the day planned. However twenty people
braved the cold weather and made the day enjoyable for all. See
photos on this site.
