UFP Fan Club Attendee Review
Terra Nova 6
A Day on the Promenade

On Saturday 23rd August, Terra Nova 6 was held here in Adelaide. The two special guests were Aron Einsenberg (Nog from Star Trek – Deep Space Nine) and Sean Williams, author of the new Star Wars novel, Force Unleashed.

The day started with GE News showing a presentation on how Science Fiction has become science fact – very informative. It made look a bit more closely at the Smart Board at my son's kindy!

A parade of all things Star Trek presented by The Australian Costumers Guild – Adelaide branch (including yours truly). Club member Hartley had an excellent Ferengi head on that was commented on by many convention goers. Good job!

Then there were Q&A's with Aron and Sean. Sean was really interesting. He discussed what it is like to write for a franchise as huge as the Star Wars franchise, what type of pressures and constraints these types of contracts can put you under as a writer and explained the differences in his writing of his other work and that of his Star Wars novels. If you have any aspirations as a writer and you hear that Sean is speaking I would truly recommend you try to get to hear him.

Aron was very humorous and had some great stories to tell us of his time on DS9. It was especially interesting that he mentioned when working with Cirroc (Lofton – Jake Sisko) for the first time and that because he was in make up for much of the time, that Cirroc didn't realise the differences in their age until much later and by that time they were already fast friends.

He also spoke of the great respect he has for Armin Shimmerman and Avery Brooks amongst many other actors that he worked with on DS9.

There was a panel – Star Wars versus Star Trek, which was very interesting, in which our very own Liam Smith participated and after much “talking around” I think the upshot was that a Death Star could pretty much wipe out the Federation and most of it's allies! (However not knowing much about Star Wars I could have the terminology wrong.)
