UFP Fan Club Convention Review
Terra Nova Four
4th November 2006.
Stamford Plaza Hotel Adelaide

After events held in Auckland (October 2006) Armageddon Pulp Culture Expo (Bill) from New Zealand brought these actors over to Australia to hold the Terra Nova Four (Adelaide) and Firstcontact conventions (Melbourne) events.
Master of Ceremonies Stuart Blair introduced the two guest artists - One from Stargate SG1-Tony Amendola and the other from Stargate Atlantis-Rachel Luttrell who both relaxed on a couch while talking to all who attended. This event had a small attendance and 22 of those were from our Club (UFP) so well done everyone. (maybe because Stargate Atlantis has only had one season aired as yet here in Adelaide at this time – November 2006). Hopefully better attendance for future Stargate SG1 & Atlantis actors will happen as these two Sci-Fi shows are well worth following. (ed)

The Professional photos were taken by S.A. Photography-Des Farkas.
(Mine look great - ed)

Tony Amendola (plays Master Bra’tac from Stargate SG1)
Tony informed us when he had finished the movie ‘Zorro’ (having worked with Anthony Hopkins - a hero of Tony’s) he was asked to audition for Stargate-SG1 in Vancouver, Canada. Much to his surprise he got the part which was to be, maybe one season, now having formed great friendships with all the actors especially Christopher Judge (Teal’c) after ten seasons.

Tony talked of his experience in acting in general and how privileged he feels in acting on Stargate SG1 plus his keeping up with other acting roles because of the series schedule which allows time for these opportunities for him.

A funny antidote from Tony when he first arrived on scene ready for makeup – Tony was told no makeup was needed to make him look like he was going to play a 133 year old Jaffa (alien), to which he was mildly shocked at first then had a good laugh.
He is actually quite good looking for a man of his experience and very pleasant to listen to. I really liked him. (ed)

Rachel Luttrel (plays Teyla Emmagan in Stargate Atlantis)
This beautiful actress appearance as ‘Teyla’ comes across on screen as an older woman, with plenty of wisdom, and a lot of muscle for her fighting skills. In real life Rachel trains upto 100 hours before her fighting scenes as she is a perfectionist’s, she tells us. Rachel has beautiful skin and looks very young in the flesh so to speak. (fantastically photogenic)
They even have her wearing a wig on the show which does save her own hair from having hairspray etc Rachel informed us. (just like Gates McFadden in Star Trek Next Generation)

Rachel was presented with some fighting sticks by Master Vince Palumbo as a gift from South Australia - Vince was the entertaining guest during the beginning and in the lunch break demonstrating Stick fighting skills. (very instructional as well -ed)

Traveling with her sister (also as actor) Rachel told us of her family life and that all her family have some form of talent. The two sisters were traveling onto Melbourne the next day (firstcontact conventions) then onto Madagascar to open a tourist resort. As a professional dancer then an actress Rachel is new to the business and enjoys all of its art forms. Rachel was a pleasure to meet and very friendly.

Rachel did tell us a funny incident whiles her being on the road here in Australia - a kangaroo had been hit by a car in front of them. Much to her horror, her car went over it as well. One of the people in the audience bought a mini Kangaroo road sign and presented it to Rachel after the lunch break to which Rachel laughed at heartily.

Trading Tables.
A new (Internet) trading table company was in attendance (CERNAT) with some unusual items up for grabs plus Gateworld Collectable table with some good bargains. (Jason from Melbourne) plus Bill from New Zealand with the photos of actors to purchase for signing.

Autographs were then done plus the audience were allowed to take photos with their own cameras - with the Australian Costumers Guild members and some paying attendees in their costumes there were plenty of opportunities.
(A Jaffa, a Prior complete with glowing staff stick, and Stargate SG1 personnel and the lovely Hailey in a costume like Claudia Black wore in a scene in SG1 ) Made by Hailey herself!
A fantastic effort by all who wore costumes.

The staff of Terra Nova Four event did a fantastic job of welcoming us all, giving out commemorative tickets and a goodie bag. Thankyou!
