We present to you, our exclusive interview
With Marc Alaimo

Marc Alaimo as Gul Dukat

Marc Alaimo
Gul Dukat
Star Trek Deep Space Nine

Editors note: Our Interviewer and club member Maryanne Scutella
Had not watched Star Trek DS9, when Marc Alaimo became aware of this, he decided to have some fun, so read on and enjoy.

Marc Alamo’s main role in Star Trek was Gul Dukat but he also played other smaller roles in the series. These roles consisted of two different humans, two different Cardassians (one of whom was the first Cardassian seen in Star Trek), an Antican, and a Romulan. He held the record for playing the most guest characters on Star Trek, a record now held by Vaughn Armstrong.

Maryanne: What is the strangest question you have been asked by a fan?

Marc: That one (laughs). No seriously, if the replicators really work. He actually wondered if it really worked. You know you push a button and something appears, if it really worked.

Maryanne: How did you answer him?

Marc: I said no, they don’t. It’s all magic, make believe.

Maryanne: If you were trapped on a desert island and you got to choose three characters from star trek to be with you which would you choose and why?

Marc: It would be… Nana uh what was her characters name?

Maryanne: I am not sure (I had only seen the first few episode of DS9 before and was concentrating on his character and consequently had no idea what he was talking about)

Marc: Do you know who I am talking about (He gave me a very puzzled look at this point, clearly surprised that a trekkie did not know the answer to this simple question).

Maryanne: Sorry, I am not good with names (I was desperately trying to disguise the fact that I did not know)

Fan: Major Kira (luckily someone nearby saw my predicament and came to my rescue)

Marc: Major Kira (exaggeratingly, clearly he did not buy my previous excuse). Okay so it would be Nana, and then it would be uh, Captain Sisko, because I could count on him to back me up and then it would be…hum who would it be? I can’t remember a name anyway you got two. That is all I need is two people.

Maryanne: What is the most rewarding thing about being a part of Star Trek?

Marc: Having a steady job and having a great character to develop and all this (pointing around the convention room). Meeting up with the people, who actually watch the show (looking at me quite intensely when he said that last part). That never happened before.

Maryanne: How does it feel to see toys with your likeness?

Marc: That was pretty exciting. First time I saw it that was pretty exciting. I was blown away. Yeah, I was real excited to see my likeness in a doll that was cool (one was sold at the convention auction).

Maryanne: What are your thoughts and feelings about the recent cancellation of enterprise and the future of the Star Trek franchise?

Marc: Well, I was pretty surprised actually, my first thought was of my friend Jeff Combs who plays one of the characters on that show (Shran) and as soon as I get back to the US I am going to call him and ask him how he feels. It is hard when your show gets cancelled. Yeah, I was surprised. It makes you wonder where the star trek franchise is going to go from here.

Marc Alaimo did a fantastic job on DS9, his character proved to be a worthy nemesis for Ben Sisko and the Federation.

Thanks to Marc for his interview with Maryanne and we wish Marc
All the best for the future.
